August makes its own rules. Half the group chat is out of town, everything moves a little slower, but yet the late-afternoon court plan still gets everyone out the door. Welcome back to the Hour of Leisure. We’re squeezing every drop out of summer, with one eye on what’s next.
The playlist
This month’s playlist is all about getting every last court session out of August. Put it on for the late game that starts in full sun and ends with everybody lingering by the gate, suddenly not in any rush to go home. Shorter days are around the corner, make use of what we've got!
The drink
The Honey Deuce. If you know, you know. It is the official drink of the US Open and we are getting into the spirit just a little bit early this year. Get out your melon scooper (or give the kids something to do), close your eyes, and imagine you are courtside.
- 1 1/2 oz Grey Goose vodka
- 3 oz lemonade
- 1 oz Chambord (or any raspberry liqueur)
- Honeydew melon balls, for garnish
- Ice
Pour the vodka and lemonade over ice in a tall glass. Float the Chambord on top and drop in a few melon balls. Whether you are watching from the couch or making plans to be there in person, this is the drink.
The book
The View Was Exhausting by Mikaella Clements and Onjuli Datta. It has a movie star, a pretend relationship, and very good clothes. Underneath all that, it is sharp about image-making, ambition, and what it costs to keep a public version of yourself looking effortless. Exactly the right amount of escape, with actual thoughts inside it.
The challenge

We all have that friend who keeps saying "I want to try it" but hasn't actually shown up yet. August is the month. Text her right now. Book the court. She doesn't need to be good, she will have fun anyways.
We guarantee she'll be asking when you're playing again by the end of the week. Tag us when it happens.
Where we’re playing
Two courts on our radar this month.
Padel Haus, New York City. Our favorite is the Williamsburg location. Check out the rooftop courts.
Sunset Padel, Miami Beach. An indoor social sporty members club in Sunset Harbour with four courts and the kind of crowd that makes you want to stick around after your match. It's the perfect excuse to get off the beach if you're starting to turn a little pink.
What we’re wearing
The white Everyday Scoop Tank with a pair of shorts is becoming our answer to almost every casual August outfit. We've been pairing it with our Baseline Short or with a pair of Levi shorts.
For anyone catching an August eurosummer moment, the Court Dress is a very good plane fit. What we’re looking forward to
The Neapolitan pickleball paddle is out, and people are loving it. Pink, cream, and just the right amount of matching energy for the end of summer. If yours is already making its way into every court photo, we get it.
The US Open, obviously. New York at the end of August has its own electricity, and we are very ready for the late nights, the great outfits, and the whole city talking about the same thing. Keep an eye on our socials during the Open. We might have something planned with someone who knows how to make an entrance.
And soon, there is a different kind of court keeping us curious. Think glass walls, a faster rhythm, and a very good excuse to gather the group again. Speaking of eurosummer... more soon.
